Candle Care
There is no magic behind taking care of your candles and it does not matter what kind of candle you take care of. There is a small number of simple steps and a bit common sense are all it needs to keep your scented candles or non scented candles looking lovely.
When it comes to storing a candle, try to put the candles in a cold, dim and dry place. Tapers or dinner candles should be piled up horizontally to prevent twisting and bending.
You can take away dust and fingerprints from a candle by lightly rubbing the surface with a piece of nylon or a soft rag. The fabric can be dry or somewhat dampened with water.
Candle wax drippings can be removed from most candle holders by running hot water over them. Some candle wax removal specialists rather remove candle wax by first putting the candle holder in the freezer for an hour or so. This lets the candle wax shrink and simply pop off when the candle holder is taken out of the freezer.
Don't even think about using a knife or a sharp something to remove candle wax drippings from a glass votive candle holder. It may scratch or weaken the glass candle holder, causing it to break if done too many times.
Stay away from burning candles in any glass container not particularly designed for candles. Glass candle holders are in particular made to endure the heat changes that take place while burning a candle. Everyday glassware is not intended for burning candles.
Votive candle holders will clean more easily later if you add a few drops of water to the glass candle holders before putting in the candle.
Caution: Don't put in more than a small number of water drops and don't add water if you do not plan to burn the candle at once. Eventually, a candle wick might soak up the water and won't burn correctly.
Keep candles away from places where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh inside lights, such as a spotlight. Colored candles could become paler if they are left in intense light for an extended period of time. The same thing goes for scented candles. Not only will scented candles loose color but in addition its scents.
