Candle Wax Removal
The wax of a candle, whether it is a scented candle or a non scented candle, is resistant to water and any water soluble cleaner. And, hot candle wax enters deep into any surface. In reality, water even has a tendency to increase candle wax blemishes, creating an even worse condition. Instant warming up may spread set these blemishes too.
Consequently, other means, such as "mechanical" or "olvency" must be applied to get rid of the candle wax. For the greatest odds of candle wax removal, please follow these steps:
Cautiously scratch up or take off as much solid "candle wax" as possible. Be cautious not to widen the blemish with this physical candle wax removal.
After that, put a tray filled with ice cubes into a Ziploc freezer plastic bag and lay it over the candle wax affected spot for a couple of minutes. Because the chilling makes the candle wax more fragile, use a knife or similar, once more to scratch off any additional remains. If the spot is larger than the Ziploc, then use the same process thoroughly until entire spot is taken care of.
Steps #1 and #2 are the "scrape procedure" (to be used again later on).
Following this "freezing" technique has removed as much of the candle wax as possible, you must then try these "warm-hot" techniques.
Initially, apply your hair dryer to soften the candle wax. Once again, carefully scrape up as much hard candle wax as possible or place a very absorbent paper towel, Bounty paper towels worked great for us; over the spot. Take a warm to hot iron and put it over this paper towel. With a bit of luck the candle wax will either soften so you can repeat the first technique or liquefy the candle wax so it will be absorbed up into the paper towel.
Presoak the candle wax spot in isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Let it soak for about 30 minutes. Agitate with a cleaning brush. Wash the candle wax infected area thoroughly with water. Once you are satisfied with the result, let the carpet or and other surface to totally dry.
Note: Always check an not noticeable part for colorfastness, previous to treating the candle wax infected area. Also note that some candle stains can not be removed.
